Once babies become mobile, there are lots of safety and childproofing actions to take . Here are some few safety tips that will save you a lot of pressure that comes with your curious baby’s movement.
- Remove anything that can fit entirely into a baby’s mouth, they pose as choking hazards.
- Lock up any substance labelled ‘keep away from children’s reach’ . Medications, insecticides, bottles of alcohol, cleaning products are all examples of substances that should be hidden from children.
- Cover electrical outlet with sliding safety plates so children do not stick their fingers or other objects and get shocked.
- Secure furnitures or electronics with wall brackets or safety straps so they do not pull them over and get hurt.
- Cover sharp corners or edges with pads to cushion the impact of falls.
- Restrict access to danger zones. Stairs, windows and railings are some of these zones. Install safety gates at the top and bottom of every stairway. Keep furnitures away from windows to discourage children from climbing up the window.
- Never handle hot food or liquid with a child in your arm to prevent burns and scalding. Turn pot handles to the side so children cannot reach and pull them.
- Never leave children unattended to near a pool or tub. Have bathrooms locked when they are not in use.
